Rodney RaY Van Winkle (1943-2004)

Former Routt County resident Rodney Ray Van Winkle died March 1, 2004, in Grand Junction. He was 60.

Rod was born April 28, 1943, in Franklin, Neb., to Donald and Doris Van Winkle. He moved to Steamboat Springs in 1956 at the age of 13. While in Steamboat, Rod worked as a plumber and then at a local coal mine for 16 years. He relocated to Grand Junction in 1998.

Some of Rod’s interests included snowmobile racing, fishing, boating and other outdoor activities. Rod had a very generous and humorous side to him that impacted most people who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald.

Rod is survived by his mother, Doris “Lou” Patterson of Hayden; three children, David Van Hinkle and Kim Weber of Steamboat and Bryan Van Winkle of Centennial; and three grandchildren.

Rod will be remembered and missed by many.
