River Road back open following rockslide

River Road closed Tuesday to through traffic in the canyon section between the Brooklyn neighborhood and Tree Haus due to a minor rockfall.

— The city of Steamboat Springs has reopened River Road between the Tree Haus and Brooklyn neighborhoods following a minor rockslide that closed the road Tuesday.

City crews finished cleaning up the section of road Thursday.

The city is asking drivers and cyclists to use caution on the road, because some minor road damage still exists.

City Engineer Ben Beall said in a news release there could be minor traffic delays in the coming days due to additional repair work.

River Road has been the site of large rockfall events in the past.

In 2011, the road was closed after two boulders half the size of a car slid onto the narrow road.

The city is planning to spend up to $75,000 next year to perform rock scaling and stabilization work on the stretch of the roadway.
