Ridin’ in the rain for Town Challenge opener

The Town Challenge Mountain Bike Series season kicked off Wednesday at Marabou Ranch, eventually, anyway.

A spring storm swept in moments before the first adult divisions were set to start and organizers delayed their start by about 30 minutes as light rain fell. The weather eventually let up, however, and the riders attacked the lush, green course west of Steamboat Springs.

Brad Bingham, who won the season-long men’s pro/open division points race last year by winning five of the six races he competed in, started off this season in the same fashion, winning that category again. Alex Pond was second and Peter Kalmes third.

Hannah Bingham, who won all six of her races a year ago in winning the women’s pro/open division, started the season with a win, as well. Hadley Nylen was second.

The race was the first of seven this summer, and the only one on the trails at Marabou Ranch, usually restricted and off limits to the public.
