Randy Baumgardner: An effective legislator with experience
October 14, 2016
I am running for re-election to the Colorado Senate to continue my work on a number of issues that are critical to Northwest Colorado's future. My four years of service in the Colorado House and four years in the Colorado Senate have given me the experience and seniority to effectively represent you as your senator for the next four years.
Transportation issues are a top priority for Colorado. I was honored to be designated vice-chair of the Transportation Legislation Review Committee (TLRC) last year and then chairman this year. Early in December, I chaired this joint House and Senate committee. Our roads are a critical piece of Colorado's infrastructure. Our discussions centered on highway and bridge repairs, paving and many other important topics.
The mission of the TLRC is to propose and review transportation, traffic and motor vehicle legislation. The committee can review any part of Colorado Department of Transportation operations and other highway and regional transportation authorities. We also have the ability to conduct post-operation reviews of projects completed by those entities to determine if the projects were done in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.
I worked for CDOT for 11 years. That experience gives me the best possible insights into these critical transportation issues.
Water is the life blood of our state. Water is critical to agriculture and recreation. I am passionate about land and water rights and keeping Colorado water in Colorado.

To stay on top of Front Range issues that might impact water in my seven counties, I meet frequently with North American Water and the Denver Water Board. I also work with numerous county commissioners to find solutions to water issues facing the counties in my district.
Several other issues are high on my priority list for Senate District 8. Among these are reduction and control of wild fires and how Colorado can meet our growing energy needs if we continue to accelerate the present path of policies against fossil fuels faster that alternative energy sources can keep up.
I have worked hard to gain the experience needed to be an effective representative for you in the Senate. That work has earned me honors including being named Legislator of the Year by the Economic Development Council of Colorado.
I also received the Common Sense in the Courtroom Award from the Colorado Civil Justice League, was named Taxpayer Guardian by the Colorado Union of Taxpayers and earned the Distinguished Legislator of the Year honor in 2015 from the United Veterans Committee.
I must also take this opportunity to set the record straight on a claim made by my opponent. She has mailed thousands of post cards to voters in my district with a claim that is absolutely false. Her campaign has said that "Randy Baumgardner voted himself a pay raise.” You deserve the truth.
The truth is that I will not receive one cent of the raise that will be gained by legislators newly elected in 2018. I believe you must know the truth to make your voting decision. Spreading false claims is not fair to voters.
To best serve you in Senate District 8, I serve on the following committees: the Senate Transportation Committee, the Capitol Development Committee, the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee and the Business, Labor and Technology Committee. As Senate majority whip, I have a leadership role in operation of the Senate.
It has been my honor to serve you for eight years. I truly appreciate your past support, I look forward to your continued support.
