Rams stomp North Park for 11th win

— A mid-week January trip to North Park High School was one that has lingered in Soroco High School girls basketball coach David Bruner's mind for weeks.

"We've struggled going in there," he said. "That's a tough place to play. We've come away with some wins, but it's always tight."

The Rams more than responded to that adversity and answered Bruner's concerns, walloping the Wildcats, 70-17.

"That was the best we've played on defense since I took over seven years ago," Bruner said. "I was really pleased. They really played well together."

Soroco simply shut down North Park, turning a game that was close, 15-9, after one quarter, into a laugher by halftime, 34-9.

Jessica Rossi led all scorers with 19 points, adding a strong rebounding performance, as well. Briana Peterson had 17 and DaKota Bruner 16.

Leah Walorski also had a big night. She scored nine but was strong all around the court, David Bruner said.

"She did a great job rebounding and on defense," he said.

The win was the first of three crucial tests this week for the Rams. The next is Friday at Vail Christian and the last at home Saturday against West Grand.

Soroco improved to 11-2 with the win.

"The kids were playing really good on defense and that was giving us opportunities on offense," Bruner said. "They busted their tails out there, and it was good to go in there and play well because we haven't played well there in the past."
