Rams ready for match in Eagle Valley

Steamboat Springs — Hoping to build on its defeat of South Park Saturday, the Soroco Rams volleyball team will travel to Eagle Valley today for another match.
Soroco lost an emotional battle to Hayden on Friday, with both teams distributing ribbons to spectators in honor of those who perished in Tuesday’s attacks on America. Coach Amy Pankonin said the team played the games to try to help the kids return to normalcy.
After winning 15-2 in the first game, the Rams fell in the next two games to the Tigers, 16-14 and 15-9. Pankonin said the loss was especially trying because of the rivalry between the two schools.
In the South Park victory, Pankonin said the team played “like a machine” at times, defeating its opponent in three close games.
Tiffany Schaffner scored 13 points in the match to lead the team, adding 30 defensive digs as well.
“We really needed a win at home for ourselves and our fans,” Pankonin said.
