South Routt School Board to hear audit findings and annual report

— Soroco Superintendent Kelly Reed will discuss the school district’s School Accountability Report during a School Board meeting tonight.

The board meeting begins at 7:15 p.m.

The School Accountability Report is issued by the state and rates schools based upon performance on the Colorado Student Assessment Program test. South Routt Elementary School in Yampa was rated high in the School Accountability Report, and Soroco Middle and Soroco High were rated average.

Reed said every postal patron in the South Routt School District will receive a copy of the report and an update letter in the mail, but he also will address the district’s results in his annual report to the board.

Reed also will provide an update on the South Routt Early Learning Center, a project that is scheduled to break ground next year near South Routt Elementary School.

Routt County commissioners approved a grant of more than $350,000 to fund the center’s construction this past summer.

Additional items on tonight’s agenda for discussion include further redistricting conversations and an update on the scheduled energy audit.

Inclement weather has delayed the audit because the auditor traveling to South Routt from the Front Range was stopped at the Eisenhower Tunnel and had to turn around.

The energy audit will help the South Routt School District explore ways to cut costs in the coming years.

Action items on tonight’s agenda include approval of the 2005-06 district financial audit, which is required by the state. Accountant Greg Hamilton will present audit information to board members.

“It’s a chance to review the final audit,” district business manager Dina Murray said. “There are no concerns. It just gives the board a chance to ask questions.”

The board also will approve several teacher contracts and hold its second reading of the Conflict of Interest Policy, which prohibits district employees from evaluating spouses or other family members within the district.
