Police: Minors snuck alcohol into party

Authorities say the parents who hosted a party for a group of 40 to 50 minors on Jan. 30 have been ruled out as suspects "for all intents and purposes."

Routt County Sheriff's Office investigator Ken Klinger said Wednesday that the minors who were drinking at the party, hosted by parents of a student for Steamboat Springs High School Dance Showcase, were not invited to the party and snuck alcohol to the event.

He said the minors had two 1.75-liter bottles of cheap vodka they snuck into the party and two more bottles in the car.

A 16-year-old girl was found unconscious in the back of a car near the party, on Routt County Road 24. She was taken to the hospital and later released to her mother.

Klinger said he has a suspect in mind and will continue interviews to find the source of the alcohol.

A 17-year-old girl who fell from a balcony at a separate underage drinking party Jan. 10 remains in a coma in a Denver hospital, Klinger said.
