STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Some of the coolest homes in the Yampa Valley, including the historic home of Steamboat Springs’ founder James Crawford, will open their doors to the public during Colorado Group Realty’s annual Parade of Homes.

This year’s fundraising event features six exclusive homes, including a 9,000-square-foot home in Dakota Ridge, but Colorado Group Realty Marketing Director Kara Larrabee said the tour is not about the size of the homes but about their design details.

“The builders and architects that built or remodeled the homes will be there to answer questions,” Larrabee said. “People looking to remodel or buy can get inspiration, and then there are visitors who just want to see what mountain homes look like.”

Larrabee said all proceeds from Parade of Homes ticket sales benefit Routt County United Way along with the Tread of Pioneers Museum, whose staff will be welcoming visitors to the Crawford House as part of the tour.

“It’s been lovingly restored, and in my opinion, it’s a museum of sorts,” said Tread of Pioneers Executive Director Candice Bannister. “It’s decorated to the period, with many things that belonged to the Crawford family on display.”

Bannister said the home, built in 1894, is currently owned by the great grandson of James Crawford, James L. Crawford, who stays in a modern addition at the back of the home while in town. She said he sometimes leads tours of the home in collaboration with the museum and allows the museum to bring in school children to visit.

“Jim is so generous to allow the museum to open up the home to the public, and we’re so grateful to Colorado Group for including us this year because there’ll be a whole new group of people that haven’t been able to see it or appreciate its history,” Bannister said.

Colorado Group Realty hosts the Parade of Homes as part of its charitable foundation, which raises about $30,000 each year for local charities.

Tickets for the “executive shuttle,” which includes lunch and a gift bag, are $50, and self-guided tickets can be purchased for $30. The homes are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

At the end of the tour, people vote on their favorite home. While the owners of the homes volunteer their home to help fund local charities, the winner gets crowned “Home of the Year” and receives a $500 gift certificate to Three Peaks Grill.

Parade of Home tickets can be bought at Colorado Group Realty offices at 509 Lincoln Ave. or online at eventbrite.com/e/parade-of-homes-tickets-46511815091. For additional information about the event, visit coloradogrouprealty.com/parade-of-homes.
