Pair of races await mountain bikers this week

— The Town Challenge Mountain Bike series will make a second try for four laps.

The series was rained out last week, but that scheduled event, the Churn and Burn Circuit Race at Steamboat Ski Area, was pushed back to Wednesday night.

The race will begin with children's divisions at 5:20 p.m. Adult races start at 6 p.m., with the pro/open division and the men's and women's expert and singlespeed categories. Sport divisions and the youth 16-18 division will start at 7 p.m., and the youth 13-15 division and the novice divisions will start at 7:50 p.m.

Racers will tackle a 2.7-mile loop near the base of Steamboat Ski Area, from Gondola Square, up to the base of Thunderhead Express chairlift and back on a different trail. Expert and pro divisions will ride four laps, sport three and novice two.

Registration will be available onsite for $35 or until 11 p.m. the night before a race for $25 at townchallenge.com.

Thursday will provide a chance for mountain bike racers, as well, as the Captain of the Boat downhill mountain bike series returns for its second week of the summer. The race will start at 6 p.m. at Steamboat Ski Area and cost $10.
