Officials suspect medical condition caused skier’s death

Matt Stensland

— An elderly male skier died Thursday at Yampa Valley Medical Center after falling at Steamboat Ski Area.

Witnesses reported the man, who was visiting Steamboat, was skiing on the Nastar race course, and he fell over.

Routt County Undersheriff Ray Birch said the man did not hit any people or objects. It initially appeared something medical caused the man’s death.

The man’s age and residency were not available Thursday.
