Obituary: Joseph A. Sternberg

September 27, 1966 – February 9, 2018

Joseph A. Sternberg, age 51 of Carlsbad, CA, passed away on Feb 9th, 2018. He was the son of Robert and Claudette Sternberg of Louisville, KY.

Joe’s formative years were spent in Rochester, NY where he was a High School All-American soccer player. His soccer career continued at the University of Notre Dame where he studied graphic arts and design and led the team as captain. After college he aspired to the professional ranks of not only soccer but also cycling and later golf. He was proud to say he was a three-sport professional athlete.

Joe moved to Steamboat Springs, CO in 1997. Over the next 15 years he dedicated his business career to the co-founding and operation of Black Tie Skis. There he mentored many to start their own businesses and always stressed the importance of superior service to those who are on vacation. Most recently Joe was active in the San Diego Notre Dame Alumni Association and Irish Angels investment group. Joe always had a smile on his face, a witty comment on his tongue and a unique swagger. He was a man that that walked into every room “as if he owned the place.”

Joe is survived by his brother Scott Sternberg, Sister-in-Law Louise and his two nephews Will and Patrick.
