David LeRoy Long

David "Dusty" LeRoy Long, 71, suddenly passed away at his ranch home on Trout Creek, December 10, 2016 with Linda by his side. Dusty was born to John W. & Edith E. "Nelson" Long on September 13, 1945 in Hayden, & was the fifth child born to this union, coming home to Trout Creek ranch to be raised with his six siblings. Dusty's Grandparents Joseph & Lydia Long homesteaded on Foidel Creek in 1911. David & Alta Nelson settled at the other end of the Rim Rocks near Fish Creek, moving their family in 1936. All are in Twenty Mile Park west of Oak Creek. Dusty began his coal mining career with 28-years at P & M's Edna Coal Mine just outside of Oak Creek, advancing to the Mine Manager. In 2000 he began working with Peabody Energy at their Seneca Mine, he was with them 14 years, until he retired for the second and final time with the closure of the Seneca Mine finishing a 40-year career as a Coal Miner. Dusty met the love of his life, Linda K. Glaze at the "Crossroads Dance" when they were 15. Dusty & Linda were married on Easter Sunday, March 29, 1964 in Steamboat Springs, & had two sons, David & Donald. In 1972 Dusty & Linda purchased part of the ranch, which belonged to his parents on Trout Creek, it became known as the "Lazy J Quarter Circle Ranch". They raised cattle, sheep, and hogs through the years. Dusty was an avid outdoorsman, a marksman, he was also an excellent mechanic, welder & electrician he could fix almost anything. His family always came first; he so enjoyed spending time with his Grand & Great¬ Grandchildren as well as nieces & nephews that looked to him as a father figure. Dusty enjoyed all of his friends & cared for his community. He & Linda had a revolving door accepting family, friends & strangers into their home. Dusty is survived by his wife, best friend & partner of 52 years, Linda; son David (Kami), 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brothers; Nelson (Linda), & Michael (Connie), sisters; B. Ann Rautio, Sandra Wisecup, Arlene (Jordon) Dickens, & Maxine (Pat) Green, sister-¬in-¬law; Sharon Glaze, aunts; Vagola "Nelson" (Don) Ward, & Bonnie "Nelson" Holliday¬-Murray, numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald LeRoy Long, his parents, John & Edith Long, grandparents, many aunts & uncles. Services for Dusty were held at 1pm, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Yampa Elementary School, burial followed at the Yampa Cemetery.
