Joni passed away peacefully on September 4, at home with her family around her. She was born September 11, 1955 in Silver City, New Mexico. Her childhood was spent in Provo, Utah, Billings, and Miles City, Montana. She lived in Durango, Colorado from 1971 to 1979.
Joni graduated from Durango High School and Ft. Lewis College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She obtained an advanced degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Joni moved to Craig, Colorado in 1979. She worked for Colorado Ute Electric Association at Hayden for 10 years. She was promoted to Assistant Chemist at TriState GPT, Craig Station. In 1997 she semi-retired and started a consulting business. In 2006, Joni returned to TriState GPT as Corporate Chemist, where she found her niche in water chemistry. She enjoyed the travel and challenges of her job.
On September 25, 1980 Joni married Leonard Zaragoza. Over the years they adopted many homeless pets. They enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and experiencing new things. Joni LOVED to read! She looked forward to her yearly fall trips with her mom and sisters.
Joni is survived by her husband Leonard. Parents John and Jesse Moore of Durango, sister Jeri (Ron) of Durango, niece Niki (Jake), great-nephew Ben of Aztec, New Mexico, nephew Brian of Durango. Sister Judy of Farmington, New Mexico, sister-in-law Kathy (Steve) Harbison of Craig, nephew Rolin (Kara) Harbison, great-nephews Steven and Maddox of Timnath, Colorado. Niece Stephanie Burgstrom and her children Lexington, Isabella and Kai of Craig.
The family would like to thank their many friends for their support, love and kindness through this difficult time.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Moffat County Animal Shelter of Moffat County Hospice.
