Jean Olive Davidson
July 19, 2014
Jean Olive Davidson, 99, passed quietly on the evening of June 12, 2014 in the Steamboat Springs Yampa Valley Medical Center.
Jean was born on May 4, 1915 in Portage, Wisconsin, the second of four daughters born to father Allen Bogue Shanks and mother, Mable Heath Stone-Shanks. She is survived by her eldest sister Isabel McAtee, 107 of Sahuarita, Arizona, and daughter Trudy Jean Sandrin of Milner, Colorado.
Raised in Portage, Wisconsin, Jean graduated from Portage High School in 1932. Ultimately she settled into a career as a bookkeeper and accountant for the Rubin H Donnelly firm in Chicago, Illinois.
Jean and daughter Trudy came to Denver in the summer of 1963. Married Charles Davidson in 1970, Jean soon relocated to Oak Creek, ultimately working and retiring from Alpine Savings and Loan.
Jean's love of cooking and sewing served as a passport to numerous organizations and social ties where those skills were greatly appreciated. She ultimately found her niche in the Routt County Council of Aging where she could socialize with and help other seniors and represent them in various capacities before the agencies serving seniors in Northwest Colorado.
The private side of Jean involved support and participation in daughter Trudy's love of horses and carriage driving, in which she was in constant attendance up until a few months prior to her failing health. She enjoyed living on her own in the Selby Apartments in Steamboat Springs up to her final weeks. This also allowed her to socialize in the regular meeting of the Ladies Recreation Club (LRC).
In compliance with Jean's wishes a Potluck/Buffett will be held at the Library Hall in the Bud Werner Memorial Library on July 26, 2014 at 4pm. Those who wish to make a donation in Jean's memory can do so to the Routt County Council on Aging, Jackie Brown, Director or to Lift-Up of Routt County Laura Schmidt, Director.
