No contractors bid on a proposed improvement project for a ramp at the South Routt Community Center.

Oak Creek Mayor Kathy “Cargo” Rodeman said she was shocked that the town didn’t receive a single bid for the project. She has placed the issue on tonight’s Town Board agenda in hopes that Town Board members might have other ideas.

The South Routt Community Center is home to the Nutrition Site, a twice-weekly gathering for South Routt seniors for lunch and social time.

Rodeman said the center’s ramp, which leads to the Nutrition Site on the second floor of the building, is too steep and too long for many seniors to use.

Rodeman secured a grant allowing the town to construct a more accessible path that would give seniors access to the second floor.

After advertising the construction project in the fall and spring, Rodeman said she was surprised the town didn’t receive bids for the project.

“Our seniors are dropping out left and right because they can’t get up there. This is a really, really important project. It needs to get done,” Rodeman said Wednesday.

If the town does not receive any bids for the project, the town would assume the role of contractor and take bids for the three areas of construction that need to be completed: concrete and bricklaying, excavating and paving.

“It would be nice to have a general contractor take on this project and subcontract it out,” she said.

The Oak Creek Town Board meets at 7 p.m. at the Oak Creek Town Hall on Nancy Crawford Boulevard.
