Nordic skiers fast in Durango

— Jordi Floyd was second and fifth last weekend in a pair of Nordic ski races in Durango, helping lead the way for a strong showing by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Nordic skiing division.

She was second on Saturday in a classic skiing sprint race, advancing through a tournament structure before placing second in the finals of the women's U20/18 division. On Sunday, she was swift again, placing fifth in an interval start freestyle skate skiing race.

Many Steamboat athletes came home with similar strong results.

Anna Burkholder went head-to-head with Floyd in the top women's division and came away with a third place showing Sunday and a seventh place Saturday.

Evan Barbier was fifth and 14th, Simon Zink was sixth and eighth and Finn O'Connell was 17th and 10th in the boys U20/18 races.

Noel Keeffe had a very fast weekend, placing first on Saturday for the U16 boys. A day later, he was second, just behind teammate Wyatt Gebhardt, who had his best race of the season, according to coach Brian Tate.

Gebhardt had a seventh place finish Saturday. Also in that division, Tyler Terranova was third and sixth, Sven Tate was 13th and seventh and John Foster was 22nd and 21st.

Maggie Morton was eighth and 11th in the U16 girls division.

Avery Harrington was another of the team's top performers on the weekend, going undefeated. She won her race in the U14 division on both days. Riley Mewborn was right behind her Saturday, placing second. Mewborn was fifth on Sunday. Waverly Gebhardt was third and second, Katy Floyd was fifth and seventh and Anna Terranova was 10th and sixth.

Cooper Jones led the way in the U14 boys division, placing ninth and seventh. Chase High was 11th and 15th and Chase Weynand was 16th and 23rd.

Sidney Barbier was fifth and ninth and Catcher Weynand was 16th and 23rd in the U12 girls races.

Grey Barbier, meanwhile, proved himself one of the top racers in the U10 boys division, placing first on Saturday and second on Sunday.
