Nordic Council seeks nominations
April 14, 2006
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs Nordic Council is looking for a few energetic people to lay the foundation for the future of cross-country skiing in the Yampa Valley.
Board President Daniel Smilkstein said the Nordic Council is accepting nominations for three board positions for which the terms have expired. Nominations for new board members must be turned in by Monday, and the positions will be filled by the end of April.
The board has seven members but may be expanding to nine after April’s elections. People interested in running for a position should submit a brief e-mail explaining why they are interested in joining the Nordic Council. They also can nominate another person the same way.
E-mails should include biographical information, an address, a phone number and an e-mail contact.
The Nordic Council has been instrumental in the development of the Nordic Challenge cross-country race series, the Valley Pass and promoting the best interest of cross-county skiers in the Yampa Valley.

Smilkstein said the group’s goals are to represent an important segment of Steamboat’s recreational community and to preserve and enhance Nordic skiing in our area.
Elections will be held by the board of directors later this month and will be announced April 25.
The board meets once a month in the winter and summer. Usually, the board meets on a regular schedule, but Smilkstein said the time of the month the group meets varies depending on the schedules of the board members.
Each board member serves a two-year term and can run for re-election at the end of that term.
Current members are Smilkstein, Dave Miller, Birgitta Lindgren, Jeff Nelson, Paul Sachs, Bill Philip and Emily Lovett.
