State representatives,

senators honored

State Sens. Jack Taylor and Ron Teck, along with Reps. Carl Miller, Gregg Rippy and Al White, were honored this month by the Colorado Civil Justice League for their support of legislation to limit abusive lawsuits in the state.

The Western Slope legislators received the “Common Sense in the Courtroom” award for their legislative records in the 2003 session.

The Colorado Civil Justice League is a statewide coalition dedicated to ending abusive lawsuits and creating a fair civil justice system.

“While we believe that those with legitimate harms deserve reasonable compensation, we are concerned that expensive and abusive litigation can limit job creation and innovation,” said Jeff Weist, executive director of the Colorado Civil Justice League.

YVMC to streamline 9Health Fair tests

Yampa Valley Medical Center has a plan to streamline some of the most popular tests offered at the 9Health Fair.

Yampa Valley Medical Center is sponsoring the 9Health Fair from 8 to 11 a.m. April 3 at Steamboat Springs Middle School. In response to last year’s record turnout for the health fair, the medical center is offering early blood draws.

Early blood draws, intended to reduce the time health fair visitors wait in line, will be held at YVMC by appointment only from 8 to 10 a.m. March 17 through 20.

The appointments include a low-cost blood test, a blood pressure check and the opportunity to purchase a colorectal cancer home test. To schedule a 20-minute appointment, call 875-2759.

The costs of the blood tests are $30 for a biochemistry/cholesterol test; $25 for a PSA (prostate); and $5 for the colorectal cancer home test. If you’d like to volunteer at this year’s health fair, or if you have further questions, call The Wellness Program at 871-2500.
