Routt County Road and Bridge Director Paul Draper said this week that chain laws are in effect for Routt County Road 36, which leads to Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Any vehicle without four-wheel drive must have chains on the tires, or the driver will be subject to a $100 fine. A $500 fine will be given to the driver of a vehicle that is stuck and blocking the roadway, which is icy throughout the winter. “We’re trying to take the pressure off of Colorado State Patrol and our sheriff’s office,” Draper said.
