News in brief: City 101 applications will be accepted through Dec. 15

— Applications for the 2016 City 101 sessions will be accepted through Dec. 15.

City of Steamboat Springs employees, along with members of the community, will be selected to learn more about the city and its operations through field trips, forums and interactive activities. 

In its second year, City 101 is an in-depth insight into city operations. Its goals are the following.

■ Create a shared understanding of the city's mission and purpose.

■ Increase community member and employee understanding of the city and its operations.

■ Enhance community member and employee ability to serve as ambassadors for the city.

City 101 will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month from January through July. Lunch will be provided. 

City 101 is open to all community members and city employees. Interested individuals are invited to submit an application to the program at steamboatsprings.net/city101.

YPN monthly happy hour set for today at BARley

Steamboat Springs Young Professionals Network will hold its Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. today at The BARley, 635 Lincoln Ave. The monthly gathering provides an opportunity for networking and a chance to learn about upcoming YPN events and provide feedback to improve YPN. The event is free, and happy hour specials will be provided courtesy of The BARley.

Medical center seeks caring support staff volunteers

Yampa Valley Medical Center is seeking caring people to join its day surgery program to support staff in the day surgery and minor procedures area with general organizational and maintenance duties and providing assistance to patients and their families.

County commissioners establish meeting call-in line

Routt County commissioners have established a call-in line enabling people to listen in live to public meetings held in the Commissioners Hearing Room at the Routt County Courthouse in Steamboat Springs. People are invited to listen to the meetings, but there is no capability to take public comment. The call-in number is 970-870-5499.

Library, museum need local history buffs for project

If you know the difference between the Bear and Yampa rivers, the Bud Werner Memorial Library and Tread of Pioneers Museum need you. The library and museum are partnering on a project to digitize and make available on the web Three Wire Winter magazine and the magazine's supporting materials including oral interviews, transcripts and photos. They need history-loving locals who have the time to listen to the interviews while reading professional transcripts of interviews for errors.  Anyone who is interested should call Alysa Selby at 970-367-4929 or email aselby@steamboatlibrary.org.

VNA offers insurance enrollment, renewal help

Individuals who need health insurance or need to renew their plans must do so by Jan. 31. The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association wants to remind people of the following important information.

■ There are new plans and prices every year. Financial help is available to lower monthly costs.

■ Free in-person assistance is available to help you find the right plan.

■ If you're already enrolled, you need to renew your plan to retain coverage. Be sure to review your options.

■ There are tax fines for not having health insurance.

You must enroll or renew your plan by: Dec. 15 for coverage beginning Jan. 1; Jan. 15 for coverage beginning Feb. 1; and Jan. 31 for coverage beginning March 1.

Drop-in open enrollment assistance is available from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Jan. 26 at Yampa Valley Medical Center, 1024 Central Park Drive.
