New Steamboat company aims to bring more live music to town

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — An entrepreneur who founded Steamboat's first marijuana dispensary shuttle service has launched a new business venture that aims to bring more live music to the city.
Drew Koehler just founded Boom Valley Events, a Steamboat-based music events company that is bringing a new weekly concert series to Schmiggity's on Thursday nights.
The concerts kick off Thursday with Golf Clap, an electronic duo from Detroit.
"They're really the godfathers of the Detroit house music," Koehler said. "We've seen them a lot at music festivals. They're super excited to be coming to Steamboat, and they'll be bringing in a special guest. Someone dope."
Koehler said other nationally touring DJs will be visiting Steamboat as part of the concert series.
He added he's working on some bigger events for summer.
"It's been more like a lifelong passion," Koehler said of his interest in live music and bringing it to Steamboat. "I grew up going to music festivals and working music festivals, so when I came up here, there wasn't much here in terms of electronic music."
