MusicFest artists perform in Chief concert series

— A handful of musicians playing at this week’s Steamboat Springs MusicFest will also perform as part of a weeklong fundraiser at the Chief Theater.

The shows will benefit Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports and the American300, and feature MusicFest performers each night Tuesday through Friday.

“It’s a great opportunity for locals to get up close and enjoy some of the great performers that have come into town once again,” said Rob Powers, the founder of American300, a military support organization.

Locals who aren’t purchasing a full MusicFest pass will be able to see the same performers for just $10 at the nightly Chief shows, which will be recorded for Dallas area television shows “Texas Lone Star Roads” and “Red Dirt Roads.”

“The [television programs] wanted a place to host shows in Steamboat, and they thought the theater was a perfect place,” said Brian Smith, a Chief board member, who is helping organize the performances.

The filming will create a “unique experience in our own Chief Theater,” Smith said.

Smith said its his understanding that MusicFest is usually attended by lots of out-of-towners, and locals often miss out on opportunities to see the acts while they’re in town.

Once the Chief decided to host the acts and the television program, Smith said organizers decided to use the shows to raise money for local organizations benefitting veterans.

The money generated for STARS will be used for the STARS and Stripes Heroes Camps, an outdoor recreation and adaptive sport camps for wounded military members.

Shows will begin each evening at 7 p.m. and feature performers including William Clark Green, Dirty River Boys and Courtney Patton, among others.

Additional last-minute performers will likely be added to the week’s lineup, Smith said.

Doors for the shows will open at 6 p.m. each night, and performances will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at http://www.chieftheater.com, at the Shoe Chalet & Boutique next door to the Chief or at the show.
