August 1, 2012
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association forecasts that Steamboat lodging properties will be 80 percent full this weekend, amounting to 12,100 visitors.
With the ninth annual Steamboat Wine Festival in town, the Chamber's weekly lodging barometer anticipates 93 percent of mountain area hotel lodging to be full as well as 93 percent of downtown lodging. The lodging barometer also forecasts U.S. Highway 40 lodging to be full.
Wine festival participants likely will occupy thousands of pillows this weekend. In 2011, wine festival producers reported the event brought in 2,800 participants, 70 percent of which spent at least two nights in local lodging.
This weekend is forecast to be slightly busier than the same time last year, which saw 10,600 visitors filling 76 percent of lodging.
This weekend also will be a step up from last weekend, which saw 9,800 visitors occupying 66 percent of lodging properties.
