STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Front Range power trio known as Mom And Dad will bring their raucous rock, costume party to Steamboat Springs on Friday.

The group is composed of two Dopapod members, Chuck Jones on bass and Neal Evans on drums, along with guitarist Ben Larroquette. Jones is known as Mom, Evans as And and Larroquette as Dad.

Mom And Dad’s roots date back to the band members’ early college days at the Berklee College of Music. Jones and Larroquette had been playing music together since high school, and they met Evans in 2006. Their first show was in June 2010 and their first album, “Nice Missile,” was released in 2014.

Explore Steamboat caught up with Laroquette to talk about who Mom And Dad really is and the sound they create on and off stage.

Explore Steamboat: Where does the name come from?

Ben Larroquette: We like to provide a familiar environment at our shows. The name just seemed to work with the vibe we were trying to create. Family makes people laugh and scream, and that’s what we like to do.

ES: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you guys perform?

BL: We’re a rock trio with edge and a sense of humor. We take our music seriously, but we do not take ourselves seriously.

ES: Did you always envision yourself as a musician in a band?

BL: Yes, I’ve played music as long as I can remember.

ES: Do Chuck and Neal bring in the Dopapod sound/influences at all? Or is this distinctly different?

BL: Chuck and Neal provide sheer efficiency, which is no doubt influenced by the hundreds of dates played with Dopapod. However, musically speaking, our band is quite different.

ES: What’s unique about Mom And Dad?

BL: I’ll answer this by relaying a reaction to one of our shows from a stranger who came up to me and said, “I’ve never laughed and cried during a show.”

ES: What’s up next for you guys? Tour?

BL: We’ve got a few shows booked over the summer, but we’re concentrating on a new album. With each of us living in Denver now, we’re making it happen.
