Midnight masquerade

Hayden to ring in the new year early with costume party

Matt Stensland

— Hayden residents will welcome the new year a night early at a masquerade party on Saturday night.

“I’ve talked to some people and they’re really excited,” said Hayden Parks and Recreation coordinator Kathy Hockett. “Just come and enjoy yourself. If you want to get dressed up in the full masquerade, that’s up to you.”

Hockett said the party is at the Routt County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. The event is on Saturday, instead of New Year’s Eve, because the idea of serving alcohol on a Sunday did not sit right with some people.

“This way you can spend New Year’s Eve with your family watching the ball drop,” Hockett said.

People have to be 21 years old or older to attend. The event is $5 for a couple and $3 for singles. Beer and wine coolers will be available for $2 each. Mountain Valley Bank is sponsoring a taxi service from the party only for people going somewhere within town limits unless special arrangements are made.

Hayden resident Ken Prescott with Events Unlimited will D.J. the party.

This is the first year Hayden Parks and Recreation has held a new year’s party. Hockett said she hopes it will become an annual event.
