Mia French: Longtime local needs community’s help

I am asking our wonderful community for help. Beth Boyd is a friend, constant ray of sunshine and a longtime local who you may know from one of her many yoga classes, African dance or a healing massage in many locations, including Strawberry Park Hot Springs, for more than 16 years.

This young woman's presence brightens those around her on a level that goes beyond words. Beth has been diagnosed with metastasizing stage 4 breast cancer. It has spread to her skull, cervical vertebrae, low back spine and hip. The discovery of this illness was a process, preceded by and continued with intense physical pain. As of today, this is not curable. It is however treatable with radiation and medication, which she will have to continue to do for the rest of her life.

This is not exactly the news we would think to get from such a relatively young healthy woman; however, Beth is facing this news with the utmost strength and positivity. She is ready to fight and has a strong team of doctors to help her fight with all they have. She wants to go about this as wholesomely as possible using complementary methods of holistic healing while partnering with western medicine — radiation and other medications.

Beth is currently in Florida as she was finishing up her esthetician's license so she could return home to Steamboat Springs and continue to grace us with her healing hands. Beth intended to only be in Florida through the winter while going to school, so she held onto her Colorado insurance during that time.

Now that she is staying in Florida so she can be with her family, she is going through the process of being insured, as she has been denied Medicaid in the state of Florida, and she is currently looking for Florida insurance. The cost of a monthly co-pay for just one of her medications is $10,000. Beth is unable to work at this time, as she is in constant, debilitating pain with back spasms that brings her to her knees, migraines that last weeks and spine and hip pain that makes it very hard to even walk.

We need your help. Your donations will go directly to Beth's cost of living, cost of medical care, medications and complementary therapies. One of the things I love about Steamboat is that we have a wonderful community that comes together when anyone is in need. Together we can help to take one thing off of this sweet lady’s heavy news. We can help on the financial side of things so she can focus on the important part — giving everything she can to fight the fight of her life.
