Mark Traum: Thank you, attendees
January 17, 2015
A warm and heartfelt thanks to our wonderful and extremely generous attendees of last Saturday's inaugural Ski for Parkinson's Nordic event. We are all truly fortunate to be living in such a caring and supportive community.
Moreover, a special thanks to the team at the Haymaker Nordic Center and all of the volunteers, instructors, servers and cooks. Your enthusiasm, professionalism and passion to provide nothing but the best of service exemplifies all that is Steamboat Springs.
Of course, the success of the event could not have been realized without the generous silent auction items contributed by more than 50 local artists, restaurants, services and shops. Coupled with the overwhelming support of the 200-plus attendee, the entire event was a stellar success.
Net proceeds will stay in the valley to provide the incentive and opportunity for People with Parkinson's to get out and enjoy some of our wonderful winter activities. Commencing Tuesday Haymaker will kick off its annual six-week Skiing with Parkinson's program. Parkie Slyders is currently developing an exciting Nordic ski program for PWPs that, we believe, is the first of its kind in the nation.
Recent studies have shown that frequent exercise can actually slow the progression of this incurable disease. By learning how to cross country ski, PWPs can regain their balance and fitness while enjoying the company of others affected by the disease.
If interested in registering for the program, contact Haymaker at 970-879-9444.
