Man seriously injured in North Routt bicycle crash

Zach Fridell

— A 37-year-old man was seriously injured Wednesday morning after he reportedly ran into a pickup while riding a bicycle in northern Routt County.

The crash happened at 8:45 a.m. near mile marker 4 on Routt County Road 62, west of Clark. North Routt Fire Protection Chief Bob Reilley said the man was thought to be wearing a helmet when he hit the pickup.

Reilley said it appears the cyclist ran into the pickup based on descriptions and accounts from the people involved and the location of the vehicles. There were no other injuries and no other vehicles involved, he said.

The man's identity and hometown were not released.

The man was initially taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center in critical condition. Routt County Undersheriff Dave Bustos said the man then was flown to a hospital on the Front Range. An updated condition was not available Wednesday evening.

Colorado State Patrol troopers and Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded to the crash.
