NINTH ANNUAL LITERARY SOJOURN FEATURES NOTABLE AUTHORS
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSBud Werner Memorial Library and Off the Beaten Path Bookstore present the ninth annual Literary Sojourn Saturday at the Strings in the Mountains Tent in Torian Plum Plaza. Featured authors are Chris Bohjalian, Andre Dubus III, Jacquelyn Mitchard, Sena Jeter Naslund and Donna Gershten. Registration is from noon to 12:30 p.m., author presentations and edible treats from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and a book signing and reception from 5 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $75. NEW STUDENTS IN HAYDEN NEED TO REGISTER BY THURSDAY
HAYDENThe Hayden School District’s first day of school is Tuesday. Parents may register new students at the appropriate school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday. Kindergartners will need immunization records and Social Security numbers and a current physical examination is encouraged. Students are eligible for kindergarten if they were 5 on or before Aug. 31. Parents who are unable to register their children during this time should call the school for assistance. Buses will pick up students following last year’s schedule. Parents of new students should call Transportation Director Carl Ray for information about bus stops. Ray can be contacted by calling 276-3943.

HAYDENHayden middle and high school coaches are encouraged to attend an coaching in-service scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Hayden High School, 495 Jefferson Ave. The coaches and the public are invited to listen to Colorado High School Activities Association representative Dr. Rick Bettger. The CHSAA official will focus on numerous topics that include contemporary issues regarding high school athletics, how to develop training rules, how to deal with difficult parents and counseling troubled athletes.
PARTNERS IN INTERPRETATION OFFERS HIKE TO MAD CREEK BARN
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSPartners in Interpretation presents a free hike to the Forest Service’s Mad Creek barn to see the new renovations to the historical structure from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The hike continues every Thursday with varying times from now until Sept. 27, including an extra hike Sept. 15. Good hiking shoes, water and rain gear are essential. The hike is four miles round trip and is an easy to moderately strenuous walk. Keep posted for the weekly times in 4-Points or call 871-9151 for more information and for reservations.
