Legion baseball team finishes season

— The Steamboat Springs American Legion Post 44 baseball team wrapped up its summer season with a strong finish last weekend in a tournament.

The squad went 2-2 to finish in the middle of the round-robin-formatted event, winning two games decisively and losing two by narrow margins.

The team beat Glenwood Springs, 12-2, and Battle Mountain, 15-4, but slipped against Rifle, 5-3, and in extra innings against the eventual tournament champ, Conifer, 2-1.

"The entire young team showed steady improvement in all phases of the game," coach Rusty McRight said.

The squad got strong performances from up and down its roster.

David Brown threw a no hitter against Glenwood, the team only giving up two runs on walks and errors. Brown also provided several key hits to spark the team offensively in that game.
