Health briefs: Adult activity and care program offered in Hayden

An Adult Activity and Care Program will be offered at the Haven Assisted Living Center, 300 S. Shelton Lane in Hayden.

The program provides a place for older adults to enjoy a fun and relaxing day outside of the home. Activities include: music, presentations, exercise, art, social events and health and wellness services.

The program will be available the following Tuesdays: March 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $50 per day.

Free van transportation will be provided from Craig to Hayden. Pick up will be at 8:30 a.m. and drop off is at 3:30 p.m. at the parking lot at the Craig Visiting Nurse Association office, 745 Russell St.

Reserve your spot one week prior to participating. This is private pay only; Medicaid will not be accepted for this special promotion. For more information and to register, contact Karen Burley at 970-875-1888.

VNA offers heptatitis A and typhoid vaccines

Are you heading out of town for spring break? Don't forget to make an appointment to get your hepatitis A and typhoid vaccinations before traveling to Mexico, Caribbean or Central America. Both diseases are prevalent in less developed countries and infection occurs by ingesting contaminated food/water. McCarthy hosts 6-week workshop

Marchele McCarthy is offering a six-week workshop called "Finding Freedom from Old Habits and Negative Emotions," starting March 5 and continuing on Wednesday evenings through April 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Health insurance marketplace meetings scheduled

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a series of free information sessions to answer questions about the new health insurance marketplace, Connect for Health Colorado. A health coverage guide will attend the meetings for individuals, families and small-business owners interested in learning about their options for health insurance under new the legislation. The meeting dates are as follows:

• LIFT-UP of Routt County: 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 24

• Bud Werner Memorial Library: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 21 and 28

VNA offers birth control, STD screenings

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association's Community Health Center is offering low-cost birth control, STD screenings (for men and women), pap smears, breast exams and general women's health care based on income. LiveWell program to help families with healthy eating

LiveWell Northwest Colorado is helping families be healthy by working to improve eating habits and to be more physically active through the "Let's Go! 5-2-1-0" program. The program sets the goal each day of eating five or more fruits and vegetables, watching two or fewer hours of TV, getting an hour or more of physical activity and drinking zero sugary drinks. HPV vaccine offered through VNA

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Protect yourself or your family from cancers caused by HPV for just $21.50 for uninsured and underinsured individuals. The HPV vaccine is for ages 9 to 26 for males and females.

• A bereavement support group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Rollingstone Respite House. The group is open to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. Call 970-871-7628 prior to attending your first meeting.
