Hayden officials to consider trash collection rate increase
November 4, 2015
Steamboat Springs — The Hayden Town Council on Thursday will consider a modest rate increase for residential trash and recycling collection service.
Town staff members will deliver their reports at 7 p.m. The regular meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Waste Management, which is contracted by the town to provide the service to residents, has requested a one-percent increase.
The proposed increase would raise the rate from $17.60 to $17.78 per home. The rate for qualified seniors would go from $12.85 to $12.98.
“Please note that due to the cost of doing business in the area, Waste Management is proposing a minor increase in the monthly fee to cover our costs,” Waste Management’s Lance Benninghoff wrote in a letter to the town.
According to Waste Management, the rate increase is reflective of increases in the Consumer Price Index.

Hayden residents still will enjoy some of the cheapest collection rates in the valley. According to the town, Waste Management charges its Steamboat customers $44.16 per month plus a one-time start-up fee. Craig residents pay $20 per month, not including curbside recycling.
Among other business, the town council will discuss applying for a grant to purchase a back-up generator for a drinking water pump station. The station services the Golden Meadows, Yampa View Estates, Sagewood and Lake Villages neighborhoods. Currently, when the electricity goes out, homes in those neighborhoods lose water pressure.
