Gift ideas for last-minute holiday shopping in Steamboat Springs
December 21, 2017
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The pressure is on.
The count is down to four days until Christmas, and if the perfect gift still hasn't presented itself, fear not procrastinators.
Although fluffy flakes and epic dumps of Champagne powder are at the top of everyone's wish list this season, Explore Steamboat has compiled a list of gifts to find here in town for those left scratching their heads staring dubiously at storefront windows.
From stocking stuffers to show stoppers, here are a few ideas for everyone on your Christmas list.
Quirky gift ideas
Find little trinkets and doodads at one of many gift shops in downtown. Surprise your fellow ski lift comrades with a retro ski flask or locally made soaps, salves and lotions from Little Moon Essentials or Ranch Organics. Try Holistica Botanicals, a local essential oils company, or look for dōTERRA products as fantastic options for those looking for at-home spa options. For the comedian of the family give them a throwback ski film like the classics, "Out Cold," "Hot Dog" the movie, "G.N.A.R.," "Hot Tub Time Machine" or "Aspen Extreme."

Who doesn't love digging through the stocking to find trinket treasures? Anything from lip balm with SPF 30, little Kleenex packs, headbands, scarves, a patterned buff, balaclava, gloves, goggles – basically any accessory you can think of that would keep your special someone warm and cozy, would be a great option. And socks, definitely socks – you can never have too many ski socks.
- Point6 or Smartwool socks (price ranges from $15 to $25) to keep those feet toasty
- Disposable hand and toe warmers (just grab a handful of these great stocking stuffers and maybe keep a few for yourself).

A gift that gives back
The husband-and-wife team of Matilda and Kelly Belknap, who have visited Steamboat often and know the area well from visiting family and friends since childhood, started Adventurist Backpack Co. on the Front Range earlier this year. The new business is an outdoor gear company with a social cause. The Adventurist Daypack is designed for adventurers by adventurers. The flagship product of the company, the "Daypack," was created to inspire the love of travel and the outdoors, while feeding families and helping those in need. For every backpack sold, Adventurist Backpack Co. provides 25 meals to families in need across America.
For the non-skier or snowboarder
Looking for a way to get outdoors, then a new pair of snowshoes will do the trick. There are also a number of yoga studios in town that offer gift cards and punch passes to a variety of classes.
Handmade jewelry from local artists to photo collages, framed memories and scrapbooks, you can never go wrong with sentimental gifts for friends and family members. Not to mention, cookie decorating or ornament-making parties are a great way to gather friends and create those handmade gifts you can't find anywhere else.
Gift cards and certificates
Sometimes a massage or spa treatment is all you need to ease any holiday woes. Another option is to get your special someone a gift certificate to their favorite après ski pub or a ski/snowboard tune from the nearest ski shop.
If you want to impress that special someone's ski socks off, go big with the gift of an experience, a memory. Think touring Routt County's backcountry ski areas with Steamboat Powdercats or one of the area’s dog sledding companies. Looking for something more romantic? Opt for a sleigh ride dinner reservation, once the snow spirit Ullr graces the valley with more snow.
And for those looking to splurge on this year's gift, polarized goggles, bamboo ski poles, or a new SPOT beacon or airbag system for the backcountry skier or new ski jacket are always great options.
No matter what you decide to gift this season, know that it's the thought that counts, no matter how small or grandiose the gesture.
