Free home energy assessments in Routt, Moffat counties

Homeowners in Routt and Moffat counties are encouraged to sign up for a free home energy assessment to learn how best to improve the energy efficiency of their home. The energy audits are free for homeowners who have Yampa Valley Electric Association service for electricity and have Atmos Energy for the primary source of home heating.

This service has a value of up to $350 and is available by signing up via the Energy Smart Colorado website at http://www.EnergySmartColorado.com and clicking on the "For My Home "link.

Atmos heat customers can receive a free "quick-fix kit" valued at $50 for gas saving measures installed on site by the energy auditor such as a hot water heater blanket or programmable thermostat. Customers who have only YVEA service and no Atmos natural gas service can receive the home energy audit for half price or $150.

The residential assessment includes an extensive walk-through and review of a home, blower-door test and infrared imaging to show areas of air leakage. A comprehensive report is sent to the customer afterward with a list of recommendations.

Homes larger than 3,000 square feet will have an additional charge of 5 cents per square foot, and home assessments in outlying areas may incur a small travel fee.
