Errors sink Sailors in 4 games against Delta

Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team was decidedly different for one game in Friday night’s match against Delta.
That didn’t prove nearly enough to make a difference.
The Sailors fell Friday in four games, 25-19, 12-25, 25-21, 27-25.
“Delta was tough tonight,” Steamboat coach Wendy Hall said. “We just turned it on and off, and you can’t do that when someone is playing well.”
The worst lapse for the Sailors came in the fourth game. Steamboat rallied from an 18-13 deficit with 10 consecutive points, but they couldn’t find the final two necessary for the victory. The Sailors were up, 24-20, Delta eventually tied at 24 and won the game three points later.
Steamboat’s Colleen King at times seemed to lead a one-player charge. She finished with a team-leading nine kills, racking up points with both strong kills and tactically perfect taps.

She and the rest of the Sailors struggled throughout the match with Delta’s block, however. That, combined with 29 errors, sank Steamboat.
