STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue began burning the remaining slash piles on Emerald Mountain Wednesday morning.

Fire Rescue crews had expected to conduct the burn in early November; however, conditions changed and the decision was made to wait.

Based on the current forecast, the public should expect to see smoke from Emerald Mountain through Thursday, Dec. 21.

The burn process will take place in the Stairway to Heaven trail area. The public is asked to avoid this area during the burn operation.

Routt County Dispatch has been made aware of the operation.

Once finished, this will complete the disposal of remaining slash taken from Emerald Mountain during a tree removal project.
