Then, there’s lots to do in Steamboat Springs from events that take you outdoors to opportunities to explore the art scene or venture to a new music show. No matter where this weekend takes you, Explore Steamboat has you covered on what to do and where to go. 

Friday, May 25

Artist Talk with Alex Sorapuru

6 p.m. | W Gallery, 115 Ninth St.

Ever wonder how an artist’s idea transforms? Ask questions and generate discussions on an artist’s inspiration and process with Steamboat Springs artist Alex Sorapuru, who brings a little New Orleans flair to the local art scene.

The Pickin’ Pear

7 to 10 p.m. | The Press, 1009 Lincoln Ave.

What exactly is a folk ‘n’ roll duo? I had the same question until I saw The Pickin’ Pear, comprised of Tia Martini and Leon Elam. The duo combines their non-traditional stylings with traditional instruments to create an original mix of modern Americana music.

Saturday, May 26

Bike Swap

10 a.m. to noon | Howelsen Hill parking lot, 845 Howelsen Parkway

Out with the old and in with the new. Whether selling or in the market for a bike, the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club could have the bike just for you at their inaugural Bike Swap. There will also be a skills obstacle course and ABC bike checks.

Consignors: Drop off bikes 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with a $5 entry fee per bike/equipment and $20 for a 10×10 space. There will be 20-percent commission on all items sold with max commission of $150 per item. Item pick-up will be at noon.

Buyers: Shop till you drop 10 a.m. to noon. Free entry.

Wildflower Walk

10 to 11 a.m. | Stagecoach State Park, 2550 Routt County Road 14

In lower Alpine areas, the wildflowers are blooming. Take this guided hike in Stagecoach or read about places close to town that you can explore to find fields and trails of color. Event is for all ages and is free, but a valid park entry pass is required on all vehicles.

Memorial Day weekend programs

10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday | 10:30 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Sunday | 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday |Yampa River State Park, U.S. Highway 40, Hayden

Get outdoors and explore somewhere new. Throughout the Memorial Day weekend, the Yampa River State Park will host multiple programs for all ages. To see the full list of events each day, visit the Happenings section.

Buffalo Commons

8 p.m. | Hahn’s Peak Roadhouse, 60880 Routt County Road 129, Clark

If you’ve never been to the Roadhouse, you’re in for a treat. Located in North Routt, the iconic bar is known for hosting live shows that will get you dancing up and out of your seat. Buffalo Commons is a local band known for their blend of Americana blues and soul folk tunes. They were also one of the bands invited to play at the WinterWonderGrass Festival in Steamboat this past winter.

Bonus: There is a free shuttle to and from the show, call 970-879-4404 to reserve a spot.

A Shadow of Jaguar

10 p.m. | Schmiggity’s, 821 Lincoln Ave.

A Boulder two-piece with a bluesy slide guitar, A Shadow of Jaguar is known for creating a high-energy, blues-rock sound with originals and improvisations thanks to Brian Hubbert, of Cold River City, and drummer Andrew Oakley, formerly of West Water Outlaws.

Commuter Challenge

8 a.m. | May 27 to June 27 | Downtown Steamboat Springs
As part of the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council’s 2018 Climate Action campaign, the Commuter Challenge is back to inspire community members of all ages to walk, bike, bus, or carpool. Leave the cars at home and use alternative transportation. Categories consist of a family division, team division, or solo riders. Sign up online at yvsc.org/commuter-challenge. Lincoln Ave.

 

Farm tour and farm-to-table lunch

10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Innovative Ag, 2205 Curve Court, and Cugino’s, 41 Eighth St.

Foodies, this one is for you. Innovative Ag is a local producer of microgreens, mushrooms and edible flowers in a four-season urban farm located near downtown Steamboat Springs. This event will offer a tour as well as a farm-to-table lunch at Cugino’s with a beer pairing.

Yampa Market

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Yampa River Park, Southeast Moffat Street

Friends of Gateway Yampa and the South Routt Economic Development Committee are once again hosting the Yampa Market as a celebration of Yampa Valley trades, skills and entertainment, featuring Colorado produce and foods along with kids activities and a bounce house. The event is a benefit for the South Routt Concert Series.
