Dyer, Shimko place high for Winter Sports Club

— Success wasn’t limited to one World Cup-bound athlete for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club mogul skiers.

Lane Stoltzner will compete in two World Cups later this season, and she was joined in strong finishes by several other local athletes.

Ryan Dyer carded one of the team’s strongest performances with two podium finishes. He was at his best Thursday in the first individual moguls competition, placing second behind Dylan Walczyk. He followed that up with a sixth-place finish Saturday, then was second in Sunday’s dual moguls competition.

“He’s a first alternate for a World Cup start. If he gets a World Cup start or if he doesn’t, we’re still going in the right direction,” Club Freestyle Director Bobby Aldighieri said. “It was a little bit of a difficult day for him on the second day of singles, but he was resilient; he got second in duals, so kudos to him.”

Avital Shimko also recorded strong results, placing eighth during Saturday’s moguls round and ninth a day later in duals.

“That’s a big result for her,” Aldighieri said about Saturday’s finish. “She’s done a great job and upped her game quite a bit from the past. We couldn’t be more proud of the work she’s done and the results she’s reaped as a result.”
