Steamboat Springs — The downtown Steamboat Springs business district was affected by a short power outage Tuesday afternoon.
Yampa Valley Electric Association experienced an outage at approximately 2:50 p.m. that lasted 22 minutes and affected 2,237 meters in the Steamboat Springs business district, according to a statement issued by Diane Johnson, YVEA president and CEO.
Due to an early spring landslide, repair work was required on transmission lines that are located on Howelsen Hill. While crews were switching the power between substations, Johnson said they encountered a switching issue that caused a loss of power at the Brooklyn Substation, which feeds the Steamboat Springs business district.
The normally routine switching process is being reviewed to ensure that all equipment is operating normally in order to avoid future concerns, Johnson said.
