Dog rescue captured on body cam

A dog is rescued from a culvert at The Lodge at Steamboat on Saturday.

A dog that got stuck in a narrow culvert outside a Steamboat Springs condominium complex Saturday should be thankful the animal control officer who came to the rescue was not claustrophobic.

Krista Amatuzio crawled the whole way through the 60-foot-long culvert to free the dog, which became stuck in the damp, dark tube while playing ball with its family.

The successful rescue at the common area of The Lodge at Steamboat was captured on a body cam worn by one of the city’s responding officers.

Police Chief Cory Christensen praised the dedication of the officer.

He noted that when Amatuzio emerged from the narrow culvert after freeing the dog, she did so with cobwebs on her back.

“It was great work on Krista’s part to help this family,” Christensen said.
