District 3: Paul Strong on the issues
Paul Strong
City Council District III
Age: 45
Occupation: Accountant
Property Tax: Supports the proposed property tax. Says it will diversify the city’s reliance on sales tax, include second homes in the revenue stream, increases fire and ambulance staffing, create a stable funding source for the fire department and provide funds for capital improvements and infrastructure projects.
Growth: Because of community input growth caps should be included in the community plan’s toolbox, but should be a tool of last resort. Has concerns about the economic and social effects growth caps can have on a community.
Chamber Funding: Supports continued finding to the chamber for summer marketing, because economy is primarily tourist-related one. Says until that changes, the city will need to rely on attracting tourists.
Triple Crown: Triple Crown is an integral part of the city’s summer economy. Believes the city should continue to work with Triple Crown to get the most economic benefit for the least possible impact. Says he would like to see the return of the girl’s softball tournament, because of its higher economic benefit and lower impact than other tournaments.
Mount Werner Water Consolidation: Logically, the city should be served by one water district with the same rates across the district, but doesn’t see consolidation occurring in the near term.
