District 1: Bud Romberg on the issues

G.H. “Bud” Romberg
City Council District I
Age: 68
Occupation: Retired High School and College Science Teacher

Property Tax: Supports the proposed property tax. Says tax will guarantee a revenue source for essential fire and ambulance services and free up funds for capital projects. Sales tax alone will not maintain services and accomplish required maintenance and upgrades. If some sales tax were traded for property tax, the proposed property tax would have to be two to three times larger.

Growth: Proposes concept of a community impact statement program to ensure quality development and that growth pays its own way and does not negatively impact the community.

Chamber Funding: Believes city’s contract with chamber is sound and that it provides a marketing plan to ensure visitors come here to support businesses, jobs and sales tax revenues.

Triple Crown: Need to balance the benefits Triple Crown brings with the negative impacts members of the community perceive. Cutbacks to Triple Crown this summer had significant financial implications to the city. The council is still in process of evaluating what changes make sense for Triple Crown.

Mount Werner Water Consolidation: Last election ran on idea that the city and Mount Werner should consolidate into a single district. Would like to see it occur, but says the failure of last year’s ballot issue may have been the one real opportunity to consolidate.
