— A 55-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested Tuesday and is suspected of pleasuring himself on the Gondola at the Steamboat Ski Area.

A Routt County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to the ski area Tuesday afternoon after being contacted by a Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. security officer. The officer told the deputy there had been two incidents in the past week of a man in his 50s with a bike and bike attire pleasuring himself in a gondola car.

The security officer told the deputy he spoke to a 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman from Louisiana who had witnessed the act Tuesday.

The females told the deputy they were with family and riding up the Gondola when they witnessed an older man in the Gondola car behind them pleasuring himself, according to an arrest affidavit. The woman said she took photos of the Gondola before telling the younger children in the Gondola to look away.

Based on the photo, the security officer was able to determine the man was traveling in Gondola car number 96. The officer was able to then determine the boarding times of the Gondola to the time the man's ski pass had been scanned. The witnesses looked at the ski pass photo, and they were 75 percent sure it was the man, the affidavit said.

The deputy later contacted the man at his home, and he denied being involved in the incident. The man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Ski Corp. spokeswoman Loryn Kasten said Wednesday that the ski area was working with law enforcement.

"The resort appreciates reporting of incidents observed by guests, so this is a good reminder that if you see something at the resort which concerns you, please report it to staff," Kasten said.
