City announces Core Trail closures

The city of Steamboat Springs Parks & Community Services Department will be closing sections of the Yampa River Core Trail and other local trails as temperatures increase and water rises. Each spring, as snow melts and the rivers and creeks run higher, various sections of the trail are closed as water exceeds the banks. As flows increase and decrease, there will be closures and re-routes on the trail system.

To date, the following sections of trail are closed:

• U.S. Highway 40 underpass at Walton Creek

• Railroad underpass between Fetcher Park and Rotary Park

These sections and others may open and close as the river reaches peak flows. The city asks residents and visitors to obey all closures and not try to cross trails with water on them.
