CenturyLink reports telephone outages in Steamboat Springs, Yampa and Oak Creek
July 6, 2015
CenturyLink is currently working to restore telephone outages in Steamboat Springs, Oak Creek, Yampa, Fraser and Granby.
According to CenturyLink media spokesperson Sara Spaulding, there was a fiber cut along Colorado Highway 9 approximately 5 miles south of Kremmling, and technicians are on site now, attempting to repair the damage to the fiber.
At 5:45 p.m., Spaulding said she did not know when telephone service would be restored.
This outage could impact landlines, Internet services and cell phone providers. According to Spaulding, this type of outage is referred to as a "toll-isolated" outage, which means callers can't make a call from land lines to outside area codes but can make calls within the same prefix.
The outage also affected the Routt County Communications Center, and for about three hours Monday afternoon, 911 calls made to the city of Steamboat Springs’ 911 line were not being transferred, and anyone who called got a busy signal.
According to a news release from the communications center issued at 6:35 p.m., 911 calls are now being rerouted successfully to the center’s administration line.
