Camping season kicks off in Routt County

Steamboat Springs — Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the camping season, and spots for this weekend are limited due to closures and reservations.
All four of Colorado’s state parks in Routt County have limited availability.
Yampa River State Park is full, unless it receives a cancellation.
As of Wednesday, Stagecoach State Park had five spaces available for Friday night, but none for Saturday or Sunday.
Steamboat Lake State Park has a couple spots available for Friday night.
At Pearl Lake State Park, there were eight spots available for Friday night and two available for Sunday night.

Available spots can be booked online until three days before arrival. After that, they will be available to the first campers to arrive.
Many of the campsites in Routt National Forest are not yet open due to snow.
The Forest Service is asking people to use caution, because it doesn’t want cars to become stuck or roads to be damaged.
“We really want to stress that people should not push themselves on Forest Service roads, even if they are open,” Forest Service spokesman Aaron Voos said.
Water is not available at any of the Forest Service campgrounds that are open.
In the Hahn’s Peak-Bears Ears Ranger District, Fish Creek Falls is open during the day. That also is the case with the east side of Hahn’s Peak Lake. Both areas cost $5.
There are 13 sites available for the first campers who arrive at Hinman Campground off Seedhouse Road. The cost for those sites is $10.
Seedhouse Road is still closed about one mile past Hinman Campground. Voos said no Forest Service road gates have been opened yet.
Down south, along the Bear River corridor, there are 22 sites open. The cost is $5.
On Gore Pass, there are eight sites available for $10 at the Blacktail Creek Campground.
Some of the Forest Service campgrounds will have trash and toilet services.
As the mountains dry out in the coming weeks, more campgrounds will open in the forest. People can call their Forest Service office to learn what is open.
