Wi-Fi provider adds tower near Milner

— Zirkel Wireless installed its 15th Internet antenna this month, on the ridge of Saddle Back Mountain east of Milner, the company reported in a news release. The company, founded in 2001, is locally owned and operated.

The new antenna site represents the third environmentally friendly site installed in Routt County; it is completely powered by solar energy, the release stated.

“Our newest tower has been carefully engineered to last through even the shortest, darkest days of winter,” Chief Technology Officer Sean Heskett said. “The solar panel array and battery packs can generate and store enough energy to withstand a full month of darkness, if necessary.”

Research group details concerns, bright side

The Mountain Travel Research Program issued a release describing the challenges of this travel season. The company, which has subscribers at several resorts who submit lodging data, tracks trends in destination vacationing.

People are booking trips cautiously, Director Ralf Garrison said. Factors of concern include the economy, financial markets and the drops in consumer confidence and retail sales. Transportation costs have decreased, the group’s data noted, which is good across the board.

Garrison said he could not release information specific to Steamboat Springs.

Alpine Mountain Ranch hires operating chief

Bill and Star Reid are relocating permanently to Steamboat Springs, where Bill Reid has taken on a leadership role at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club, a news release stated. On board since Nov. 3, Reid serves as chief operating officer for the management, marketing and sales.

Reid brings experience in development and operations in mountain west real estate and resort communities, the release stated. Reid spent four years as CEO at Teton Springs, an all-season resort community near Jackson Hole, Wyo.
