WZ Giving Circle donates over $28K to community groups

The WZ Giving Circle met March 28 for its spring gathering and collectively donated $28,428 to nine organizations to benefit a number of individuals and families in need. Beneficiaries were the Oak Creek Police Department, Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Association, Integrated Community, North Routt Preschool, Routt County Collaborative Management Program, Northwest Colorado Center for Independence, Young Tracks Preschool and Child Care Center, Routt to Work and the Yampa Valley Autism Program.

The WZ Giving Circle meets two times per year in the spring and fall to learn about the current needs of the community and make collective decisions about the most impactful place to grant their pooled funds to Routt County families and individuals in need. The program is sponsored by the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

Events to celebrate Chris Johns' life scheduled for this weekend

The community is invited to celebrate the life of Chris Johns, the owner of Wheels Bike Shop who died unexpectedly March 6 at age 51, during several special events planned this weekend.

A road bike ride on the Emerald Loop and a family ride along the Yampa River Core Trail will be held in Johns' honor at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7. Participants should meet at Wheels Bike Shop.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, friends and family will gather at Wheels Bike Shop for a bike parade to the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave. An open house memorial celebration of Johns will follow at 4 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.

A group will meet at the top of the Gondola to ski on 11 a.m. Sunday, April 8. Memorial donations may be made at gofundme.com/johnsie.

Steamboat Moms accepting donations of kids clothing, gear

Steamboat Moms is now accepting item donations for the organization's spring clothing and gear swap, which will be held Saturday, April 7. Official drop-off will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 6 at Bud Werner Memorial Library's Library Hall, 1289 Lincoln Ave. Donations will not be accepted the day of the event. Those who cannot make the drop-off should contact Lori Biagi at 970-846-5833 to make arrangements. Boys and girls clothing for any ages, baby gear, shoes, maternity wear and other children's items will be accepted.
