Sustainability Council seeks sponsors for ReTree, Recycling

Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is stepping up its efforts to mobilize the community around climate action and is seeking sponsors to support the organization’s ReTree and Waste Diversion programs. Sponsorship starts at $500, and the deadline is April 9.

YVSC’s Waste Diversion program is reducing our community’s carbon footprint through sustainable events, the Food Waste Challenge, and the organization’s popular recycling drop-off events, scheduled for May 12 and Oct. 27. The ReTree program engages youth and adults to improve the health of forests and riparian areas through tree-planting and stewardship projects. Visit yvsc.org/sponsor or email anne@yvsc.org for more information.

Center for Visual Arts expands docent program for events, tours

The Center for Visual Arts has expanded its docent program to include new members. Emphasizing art education in the community, CVA docents lead group tours, assist at special events including lectures and workshops, greet visitors to the gallery and conduct art sales.

Typically, CVA docents spend one day per month greeting visitors. Other part-time opportunities include helping with fundraising efforts and serving on specific committees such as Art Walk, exhibits and facilities

Currently, the Center for Visual Arts, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, provides exhibit space for emerging artists and displays the work of highly accomplished regional artists. CVA coordinates the popular First Friday Art Walk and presents free Guest Artist Lectures to local artists and the community at-large.

In return for their service, docents receive free admission to CVA events, discounted prices on art, meet people in the art field and expand their art education. CVA hosts “Meet the Artists” evenings for docents, visits to artists’ studios and excursions to the Front Range to visit galleries and museums including the Denver Art Museum.

Cen$ible Energy home and business assessments available

The community-funded Cen$ible Energy program offers home energy assessments for residents living in Yampa Valley Electric Association territory. Residents can sign up for a free comprehensive home energy review performed by a local certified auditor by visiting EnergySmartColorado.com.

The audit is free for customers with YVEA service as well as primary home heating by Atmos natural gas. Funding for free home audits is available on a first-come, first-serve basis each heating season. Customers with only one of those utility services can pay half price or $150 for an audit.

New this year, Cen$ible Energy is offering commercial or small business energy assessment rebates with a $200 allowance to the first 10 customers to sign up this heating season. A mid-level commercial assessment is available locally for $500 for businesses up to 10,000 square feet. For questions, email suzie@yvsc.org.
